Gone are the days of traveling light and being frivolous with your packing. Now when you make a packing list, things have to be kept in mind; Always remember you can do without a few things as well but your toddler may not… this includes essentials and toys as well. The baby needs what the baby needs!!

Depending on where you are traveling, your packing list will have location specific gears like swimsuit, snowsuit etc, however, the basic things would be identical. Below is a checklist that will help you identify and pack the important things that you would need when you are traveling with your toddler. If possible get your child her own travel bag; this way all her stuffs go in there and things are all organized as per requirements.

2 outfits per day – First one, she will wear throughout the day and the second, just in case “ooops” happen. If the place where you are traveling is hot, the clothes should be airy and loose.

2 night dresses per night – following the same logic as the day outfits

Shoes that fit – Before final packing, make your child wear her shoes to ensure that they still fit. Just because they were fitting fine last week may not mean that they will fit now as well.

Diapers – Consider how many would require; then pack double that amount. May be you can pack some diapers in other bags as well. You may not get the same brand that your kid uses at your holiday spot.

Baby Toiletries – Shampoo, soap, toothbrush, diaper cream, baby brush, powder, lotion! Also if your kid has long hair then carry hair band, extra rubber bands, baby clips etc to keep them in place.

Favorite toy/blanket – If your kid has a favorite toy or a blankie that she will not be without, it becomes a ‘must’ item in her packing list.

Other essentials – Medications, baby formula, sippy cups, juices, snacks, toys

Important documents to remember:

  • Child’s pediatrician’s number for emergencies.
  • Get the contact details for a children’s hospital in the nearby area to your vacationing spot.
  • Consent letter from the non-traveling parent in case you are traveling solo with your child.

The very first trip may seem rather daunting; but it does get easier eventually.
