Keeping your shoes clean during the monsoon

Monsoon is an amazing time especially for the kids, when they can jump in the mud and play in the rains. However, it becomes an entirely different horror story for the moms. Apart from the fact that the shoes get dirty, there is a strong possibility for foot fungus and the decay of the footwear itself.

Here are some ways that will help in maintaining the kid’s shoes during the rainy season

Cleaning the outsides

Leaving the shoes to be cleaned later during the weekends is a big No-No. Once the shoes are taken off, try cleaning them immediately. However, if the mud has already dried off then use a brush to rub it off.

Cleaning the insides

Ignoring the wetness of the soles can prove to be disastrous. Once the wet shoes are taken off, place them vertically against any surface for the extra water to run. After about 30 minutes or so, place a few tissue papers on the sole so that the remaining water is soaked out. Repeat this process if the shoes are mighty drenched. Post that, sprinkle talcum powder generously on the soles. This absorbs the remaining moisture and prevents any stench.

Polishing

Daily polishing of shoes helps protecting them from added moisture. Once your shoes are dry, polish them properly.

Investing in rubber boots

If you feel that the rains are too much for your regular shoes, invest in a pair of good rubber boots. Check with the kid’s school to see which colors and designs are acceptable, and purchase a pair of those. These boots can be dried and cleaned easily and are specifically designed for the rains.

Storage

For a longer shelf life, dry your shoes completely before putting them back on the rack or shelf. Also weekly cleaning of the shelf/rack is essential so that the already existing dirt do not harm the footwear further.

Happy Rains!!!!!
