Infants & Toddlers – Possible Health Hazards at home

Infants and toddlers love to experiment with things and put things in their mouths. They are innately curious and want to explore their surroundings.  A number of things at home that we take for granted can become a health hazard for them. For example a cutlery piece a lego piece or even quilts or soft pillows etc.

Here are few things at home that may become a health hazard for your child.

These are rather dangerous as the child can wrap it around their heads and suffocate.  Plus these are bad for the environment as well.

Items like buttons, coins, safety pins, lego bricks, broken crayons or toy parts (anything smaller than a D-size battery) are possible choking hazards for your kids.

Infants require firm mattresses for sleeping. Their crib should be free of quilts, soft toys, extra pillows or anything else that might hamper the breathing process. It is important to remember that though these things may look pretty, but the child cannot turn its head or roll over as easily as an adult, so there are larger chances of her/him suffocating if a stuffed toy or a pillow lands on her face.

Forks/knivesforks and knives

Toddlers rule #1 – anything that is unattended must be touched and should go in the mouth. A knife or a fork can be dangerous as the child can poke herself or even cut herself with them.
