What Women Want?
So what does a self-respecting and self-worth appreciating woman want in life? This is a question which men claim they don’t have an answer to (because we are such complicated beings as per their claim).
Too many jokes and memes have been made based on this question. Hell, even a movie was made on this. Remember Mel Gibson hearing ladies’ thoughts and working accordingly to gain recognition and sex. He needed a superpower to understand the women kind. (It’s a bit of a stretch isn’t it!!!)?
Even though men and women together complete the planet, yet women have been demoted to a 2nd grade citizenship. Now before you go all ‘attack mode’ on me, I am not talking about the privileged or the gold-digger kinds, (because they exist too); I am talking about the regular middle class women of the world.
Before we start talking about the world, let’s have a look at our country itself. Right from the time the girl is born, quite a few families start to accumulate money for her marriage. Why so? For a parent, getting her married off by showing the world of their opulence is a duty that needs to be performed. Even if it means that after such a wedding the parents are left on the streets as all the money has been wasted on a ceremony to treat people who probably won’t look twice at the family. Instead, if you must save money then why not do it for her education and her dreams. If she is properly educated and is self-respecting, she would fulfill her own dreams and will not require your money.
The other side of this heavy expenditure wedding scene is the mentality that if money is spent on our daughter’s wedding then we shall reclaim it from his bride’s side when our son gets married.
Will it not be much fruitful and civil if both son and the daughter are well educated and no money is exchanged in selling them or giving them off in the name of weddings?
I know I sound way bitter than I should be; but the other day I witnessed an incident where a relative was convincing a young man for an arranged marriage by giving reasons which sounded like the unsuspecting bride-to-be will end up being a full time bonded labor for the house, while the boy will be free of all responsibilities and can “have fun” and enjoy life. The worst part is young men like the one in conversation; do not find anything wrong with the situation because it is a win-win situation for them.
We hear women being harmed and killed for dowry. ‘Rape’ has become a go-to thing for men who are fit to be called monsters. Domestic abuse, eve teasing and sexual harassment are so much prevalent now. I am sure that some men are also victims of these, but women victims are more in numbers. This should not happen to any men, women or even animals. All should be living in peace because everyone has the right to live.
But I digress from the actual topic! So what do women want?
The answer is quite simple. Whether professionally, personally or socially we want respect, happiness, peace and a right to live just as same as men because we are not 2nd grade citizens of the world, we are equals!
