Movie Review – Fantastic beasts and where to find them

  • Movie title – Fantastic beasts and where to find them
  • Duration – 2 hrs 13 mins
  • Genre – Fantasy, Family
WARNING – This review may contain spoilers!!!

I went in with lots of expectation for this movie…All this while, I was rather apprehensive as well after the last J K Rowling fiasco named “the cursed child”. I am a big time Harry Potter fan, both books and the movies. After the movie I can say I was not disappointed… not even wee bit!

The Plot: The movie follows Newt Scamandar a Magical Zoologist and his journey to the Big Apple with a suitcase full of intriguing magical creatures.  A prequel of kinds, this movie is the origin story of the Hogwarts text book – Fantastic Beasts and where to find them.

Tit Bits:

Harry Potter fans will understand and enjoy the name droppings. References have been made to Hogwarts and the best Principal the school has ever seen; the Lestrange family and various spells that we have seen Harry and his classmates learn in the HP series.

Breath taking CGI fit like a glove with the actual human characters.

The movie was alluring but not flawless. Considering the movie is named ‘Fantastic beasts…’ the magnificent beasts should have been given bigger screen space.

Eddie Redmayne is awesome as ever. His depiction of shy and awkward Newt Scamandar is adorable. Ezra Miller presents an eerie experience with the squalid abused boy version of his character.  Dan Fogler the muggle/no-maj (I did not like the term though) played a worthy sidekick to Eddie’s Newt. His comic timing were perfect and provided an impeccable idea of what would happen if we (muggles) would get sucked into the magical world accidentally!

Best part – Special appearances by Ron Pearlman & Johnny Depp

Verdict:

Must watch for all Harry Potter fans!!!

Even if you are not a HP franchise fan, you can watch it with your little ones who are going to have a gala time watching magic, charming creatures and all the action & adventure.
