Food/Drinks to Avoid During Pregnancy
This is the time when you must be cautious regarding your food and beverage intake. The list is long and debatable; hence it is best that you check with your health care practitioner for a concise list created as per your best suited needs. However, there are certain items which are a huge no-no no matter whom you check with. Below given are a list of such items which you must avoid at all costs for the health and safety of your unborn.
Caffeine – It is best to avoid any items high in caffeine like cold drinks, tea, coffee, sports drinks etc. This increases a higher chance of miscarriage or other health related issues for the fetus.
Raw poultry/fish – Uncooked meat, eggs or fish should be completely off the menu during the entire pregnancy. Raw poultry/fish can make the mother susceptible to certain parasitic diseases or infections which may harm the fetus too.
Alcohol – Alcohol consumption during pregnancy has huge perils. This can lead to improper brain development of the fetus or can be responsible for myeloid leukemia in the child.
Unpasteurized cheese/milk- Unpasteurized cheese or milk contain bacteria which can add up the chances of miscarriage. To be on the safer side always check the labels of the milk and cheese you buy. In case you fail to see ‘pasteurized’ on the package, it is best to let go of the product.
Street Food – Even though you might crave for the yummy street food available just around the corner, it is advisable that you curb your cravings specifically because of the hygiene factor and the water used to prepare the food item.
Liver – Liver has high amounts of Vitamin A. Too much of vitamin A can cause birth defects in the fetus. It is best to avoid food with high levels of Vitamin A and mercury during the entire pregnancy.
