Things that the Teacher will NOT allow in her class!

Teachers are the reason why we are where we are in life! Without their wisdom & patience we would not be the person we were meant to be! Team Itemmom puts teachers & mothers on the highest possible pedestal because we know without either of them there would be no success in our life! Heck!! There would be no life!

Teachers can be categorized into different groups – the strict one, the lenient one, the funny one, the one we all had crush on, the biased one, the mean one, the role model one, the hot one etc. No matter what category the teacher fell into, there had to be certain things that they would let slip and certain thing which were a big ‘no-no’ in their classes.

We went ahead and asked few teachers (ladies of various age groups) about the one thing that they will NOT tolerate happening in their class.

itemmom_image_priyanka_philipsPriyanka Philips – a Varanasi resident & a teacher of Sunbeam Sun City school teaches 6th to 8th graders. She says, I’ve teaching since 15 years and hence have gotten the opportunity to observe children rather closely. The one thing that I will not tolerate in my class is misbehavior. ‘Misbehavior’ according to me not only includes lack of respect towards the teachers but also towards the fellow students. I strongly believe that their attitude towards their daily life, friends, teachers and other elders are as important as their grades. I understand that when they grow up, no one will judge them as per their grades but their behavior and attitude towards life. This will also help them achieve success.

itemmom_image_donalyn_santiagoDonalyn Santiago – A Teacher from Mumbai, who teaches 9th & 10th graders, has an interesting thing to say. She says, I would not like a child to hover around me like a fan (get the pun!) asking me answers to the same questions that have already been asked by some other student. I just feel like some advertisement on television where I have to repeat myself over and over again to aid hammering information and instructions in their heads. This is due to their lack of comprehension skills.

I also don’t want my students to suck up to me because they have to realize that hard work pays and buttering someone doesn’t. I also don’t want my students to mope around when they have had a heart break. Just move on, there is something better in store

Champa Maitra, a retired teacher from Patna, who taught English & Civics (Social Science) from 8th standard to 12th. She is a strong believer that discipline should be maintained in class by the students & the teachers alike. She says,I believe that whichever subject is being taught in the class, the students need to put in their 100% attention and diligence in it. The one thing that I absolutely did not allow the students to do in my class is read or accesses other subject’s notebooks when I was teaching.

Neelima Raout Gadkari, another retired teacher from Nagpur who used to teach the Primary section in Kendriya Vidyalaya (multiple locations). She says,No teacher in the world can make a medicine out of a subject matter and inject it in the student, which means the students have to pay attention to learn. What I used to detest was one mischievous student disturbing other kids around her/him distracting them as well. That was something that was completely intolerable.

Teachers, no matter what age group they belong to; agree that discipline and diligence are both very important for a student and a teacher to be successful in class and in life!
