Coughs can be menacing and annoying at the same time. It is a constant nag that will not leave no matter what! Basically a chronic cough will bring your day to standstill and cause misery for you.
It is also not possible to run to a medical practitioner every time your cough decides to show up. So here are 5 natural and homemade recipes we are sharing here will bring relief to the sore throat and chronic cough.
Honey
Honey is supposed to be the Queen of remedies for sore throat. Honey can be used in various ways as sore throat/cough remedy. You could add 2 teaspoon of honey with any green tea, or warm water and lemon; OR you can simply consume a spoonful of honey everyday to keep the throat passage clear. Plus honey is supposed to have other awesome benefits too.
Salt Water Gargle
This is probably one of the oldest and tested methods ever. The salt and warm water concoction helps sooth the scratchy throat and reduces the irritation. Mix 1 teaspoon of salt in 250 ml of warm water and gargle with it.
NOTE: Young children may not be great at gargling so it is best not to use this on kids below 6.
Kadha
This concoction is prepared with dry spices that cannot be juiced. Since this is an age old recipe and every household has customized it according to the available ingredient. Mix tulsi leaves, black pepper and ginger together with a tablespoon of honey with a cup (250 ml) of water. Bring it to a boil. Strain it and drink it warm.
Turmeric Milk
Turmeric contains ‘curcumin’. It has strong anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-inflammatory properties that help in treating infections. So it is advisable that one cup of milk with ½ teaspoon of turmeric in it is good agent for clearing throat. This should be consumed twice a day for better result.
Spiced Tea
The spices given below have healing properties. They help reduce phlegm content and congestion in the lungs. Mix ½ teaspoon of ginger powder, a pinch of cinnamon powder and some cloves in a cup of light golden tea. You can add a slice of lemon for better taste too. This is a great way of getting relief from bad cough.
