Why is meditation important?

An ideal life is a happy life. We look for happiness in so many places like in relationships, in retail therapy, in actual therapy, in food and other such material things. Don’t get me wrong, I am just as material as the next person, but I also want inner peace… more like I need it for the normal running of the daily life. I don’t think I will ever achieve Nirvana because I am too distracted by the worldly affairs but I realized that I could do certain things which would help me keep my head in the right place.meditation_image_itemmom-article

Ergo started the quest to find the right meditation for me! You may ask why I say ‘right meditation’! The reason my friend is that I do not have more than an hour to devote to daily meditation because of the professional, familial and canine duties. If you are anything like me, you’d find anything that can go wrong will definitely go wrong once you start with a new thing. So I needed something which would not take more than an hour or so and yet I would find some semblance to my life’s path.

Meditation has nothing to do with religion. I am not a religious person, not even a wee bit! However, I am doing this to feed the spiritual side of my being! And now that I have started my regular dosage of meditation I see a difference in these things

Better concentration at work

I still have as much distraction around me as before (if not more), yet I can zone the noise out and concentrate better in my work. I am beginning to get less bothered by the cacophony around me and focus on what I need to do for the day.

Even though sleep is one of the most natural human functions, stress and busy schedule keeps us from falling asleep as soon as we hit the sack. Half of the night goes in planning for the next day’s to-do list or stressing about the work that needs to be done OR the what if’s… what if I said this or what if I did this, the result would have been different and so on. I used to have the same issues, especially with the “what if’s”… but now NO Sir!!!…. I sleep like a drunk who has passed out. Jokes apart, meditation drastically improves upon the quality of sleep one has resulting in a more fresh and aware person as ever.


Finding inner Peace & Happinessinner_peace_image

I am no Guru, and although miniscule yet I see the difference that has started to occur. If something annoys me and makes me unhappy, I am kind of successful in removing myself from such dialogues or situations or at least employ logic. Hoping to get better with practice!




Controlling the negative emotionsfrozen_let_it_go_image

As the famous Princess Elsa from the movie ‘Frozen’ sings…

“…Let it go, let it go;

Turn away and slam the door

I don’t care what they’re going to say

Let the storm rage on.

The cold never bothered me anyway…”

Letting go of emotions like sadness, fear, anxiety and anger always helps in gaining self control and leads to a better life. Seriously man… zero expectations bring zero sadness & anger! This helps! Try this with a deep breath.

For me the beginning of meditation has shown much promise, only hoping  that I could continue with it and get some more fruitful results.

    Meditation definitely helps. I suffered postpartum depression for a while, this was when I learnt and started practicing meditation upon my MIL’s insisting. It helped a lot!
