Things to avoid for Oily Skin

Oily skin bothering you? Is it ruining your look and giving you skin nightmares? Say no more. We understand that living with oily skin can be hard especially when the face ends up looking a pin-cushion because of acne.

Why is it that some people have more oily skin than others?

Well… the answer is here. Oily skin happens when the sebaceous glands in the skin make too much sebum. Sebum is vital for keeping the skin healthy and every individual produces this. However, too much sebum can lead to oily skin, clogged pores, and acne.

Here are a few things that are best avoided in case you do have oily skin

Avoid oil-based products

Oil consists of Oleic acid, which is a fatty acid. The build-up of this oil can sit heavy on your skin often leads to breakouts.

Greasy lotions/creams

These products block the pores, irritate the skin and can lead to pimples.

Certain food items

There’s an entire list of items that are best avoided if you have an oily skin.

Dairy Products – These contain high levels of hormones which may lead to increased oil production and blocked pores.

Sugar – The body responds to too much sugar by producing extra insulin, which in turn encourages the glands to produce more oil and heightens the risk of breakouts and excess oil accumulation on the skin

Alcohol – It has a huge impact on skin. It causes major dehydration and the skin ends up producing more oil to compensate and this often leads to breakouts.

Avoid loofahs and rough washcloths

Added friction on the skin may stimulate extra oil production. Face must be washed gently with a gentle soap or gel and face has to be pat-dried and not rubbed vigorously.

Avoid makeup during a breakout

It is advised that during a breakout, avoid wearing foundation, powder, or blush. However, if makeup is a must then use oil-free and water-based makeups. It must be washed off clean at the end of the day.
