Mommy Talks – Kids & a rainy day

Rainy days can be good, bad or simply painstaking if the kids are not happy at home. For any mother to have a peace of mind, it is essential that the children, who are stuck at home during those incessant rains, should be content. So we asked mommies what their children do during those days to avoid boredom. Here’s what 5 of our mommies had to say…!

deepika-singh-sarojDeepika Singh Saroj, a resident of Mumbai and mommy to a gorgeous 2+ years old girl says – “My baby loves the rain and does not get bored. Whenever it gets dark, she asks if it’s going to rain and if it does, she dances around in the house. She likes looking outside the window at birds, vehicles and people rushing. And talking about everything she sees outside. She also asks the birds and animals if they like the rains”.

karen-jacob-dasilvaKaren Jacob Da’Silva (mommy to 2 scrapping young boys) who lives in WA, Canada says that her 9 year old loves the rains, especially the incessant ones. She says – “He will be outside playing with water guns, washing the cars and generally splashing around and causing mayhem.  In Canada, we only get rains in July-August and they are sporadic at best.  But you can rest assured that Kiefer will NOT be indoors unless he is expressly BANISHED from going outside. On the rare occasion that he is forced to be indoors during a thundershower, my little hellion will play chess and DEMAND to be fed with hot snacks like samosas, perogies etc.

He will also draw his favorite Pokémon or Transformer characters and or help mommy bake cookies. Yes, my 9-year old LOVES to cook!   He must take after his dad in that respect! He also whips out mean batches of hot-chocolate decked out with generous dollops of whipped cream and crushed candy canes (yes, we have them all year around)

My little one will happily join his big brother outside or stand by the window with eyes as big as saucers pleading to go outside.  His mom is usually too passive and exhausted to say no to her little munchkins!”

samidhaSamidha Dhongade, Mumbai resident & mother to handsome young man of 18 (Tanay) is a Quality & Seller Acquisition expert with www.craftsvilla.com. She says,

“Rains are welcome unless they are not incessant and do not restrict you to your home. Some times when it’s raining cats and dogs and Tanay and I are at home, we do loads of activities like watching movies, playing carom, reading books, playing on the laptop but the most interesting and loving activity we do is cooking together.

We take out our set of cookbooks, check the fridge and assemble the ingredients. Together we churn out some delicacy which we relish together while watching our favourite movies.

At times, my nephew Hrishikesh joins us who is a big foodie and aspires to be a chef. He is very good at cooking. With his help and tips, the recipe turns out to be even better. These incessant rainy days have made us invent and christen recipes like eeda salli, maggi wadas, bhakri pizza, boiled egg momos etc. These recipes are available only at Sami-Tanu-Hrishi’s delicacy deli!”

shakambhari-tShakambhari Thakur – a Bangalore resident and a mommy on break from her professional responsibilities has a beautiful 5 year old girl Vritika – an inquisitive little princess. Shakambhari says that it is a bit tough to keep her indoors without the TV. She also says, “It’s easy to distract her into coloring diyas or making cards. On a rainy day, when it’s dark and gloomy outside, she tries to make colorful diyas and create her own greeting cards for her friends, depicting a rainy day. Since the attention span is limited in these activities, we switch to jigsaw puzzle or making legos”.

Sangeeta Agarwal, a Mumbai resident and stay-at-home mommy to an amazing 5 year old girl says that her little princess loves reading when she is at home stuck due to the rains. She also says that “her (daughter’s) other 2 choices for the rainy days are watching cartoons and may be playing a little game on the mobile, but mostly she likes reading!”

While writing this article, we realized that kids hardly get bored if they have ample things to be engaged in, especially if a rainy day is enjoyed as a family time!
